The final program in the 2024 State of Community Series focused on the State of Education and was held on Thursday, December 5th at the Lyons First Baptist Church. This event featured a panel of local education experts including: Barry Waller, Superintendent of Toombs County Schools; Dr. Sandy Reid, Superintendent of Vidalia City Schools; Dr. Rhonda Hightower, Superintendent of Montgomery County Schools; Scott Tuck, Head of School at Robert Toombs Christian Academy; and John Sharpe, CEO and Director of High School Services at SECCA. The panel gave an update on their respective school systems and highlighted recent programs and collaborations. A large focus for our school systems is creating a place where students are ready for life after graduation. Each speaker mentioned programs and initiatives that they are creating in their system to educate and empower students for enrollment, enlistment, or employment. Our community is blessed with great options for educating our children and having them ready for life beyond the schools as productive citizens in our community.
The next event by the Public Policy Council will be the 2025 Legislative Luncheon on Thursday, January 9th. Tickets are now available on the Chamber’s website. We appreciate everyone who has made the State of Community Series a success. The Presenting Sponsor for the series is Brown Companies and Gold Sponsors for this event were Lighthouse Early Start Academy, Inc., Vidalia City Schools, and Toombs County Schools.
